One World Anchor's New Jersey branch has recently been focusing on encouraging students to get more involved in their local communities and volunteer. By participating in local community projects and volunteering, students can develop a deeper understanding of the needs of their community and enhance their personal and academic development. Ultimately, getting involved in local communities and volunteering is an excellent way for students to make a positive impact on the world around them.
To further this goal, One World Anchor's New Jersey branch has taken several initiatives:
Firstly, we offered volunteering seminars in local schools. In January 2023, our co-director Sophia and three other team members gave a volunteering seminar at Bergen County Academy. They shared their volunteering experiences and introduced students to various ways to get involved in the community. The seminar was well-received, with students showing enthusiasm to participate in volunteering events. Our members also made presentations about One World anchor at the NJ Chinese volunteer group annual meeting.
To provide relief to those affected by the Turkey-Syrian earthquake, OneWorldAnchor partnered with the Fort Lee Chinese Association to collect donations. The collected donations were sent to Paterson City, where many Turkish and Syrian residents initiated a donation event. Our volunteers were able to meet with the Paterson City Mayor and donated goods to show support.
Lastly, One World Anchor's tutoring team has been offering online free lessons and after-school support for local schools. Currently, a team of nine tutors are providing free online Zoom lessons on various topics. A few career talks from STEM professionals are also coming up. We are also working to connect with local school districts to provide long-term tutoring support to underprivileged students. Please access the free classes and lesson videos via our website and YouTube channel.
Overall, One World Anchor's New Jersey branch has been making a positive impact through our "connect with the local community" initiatives.
